KUALA LUMPUR: Walk into any urban campus and there will be hordes of young girls who are slim and dressed in clothes that reveal their figure. Being thin is in and many are dying to be thin. They want to emulate weight-conscious celebrities like Paris Hilton and Lindsay Lohan.
And this is one of the reasons for a rising problem among young females - eating disorder. About 70% of them are not satisfied with the shape - and size - of their bodies.
In a study conducted by chartered psychologist Dr Hera Lukman, it was revealed that about one in 10 young urban female college students is prone to eating disorders in their quest for a perfect body shape.

There is a permanent silly talk about overweight is unhealthy, but nobody really talks about the problems of underweight, which is indeed very dangerous.
My older daughter, many years ago, had such a stupid 'slim' idea - but a girl 50/50 Europe/Japanese cannot look like a superslim Japanese model.
The result was a painful 3-week stay in a hospital, as she suddenly was unable to eat ...
My younger daughter saw the result and promised me to continue to eat at least daily ice-cream.
It is better and healthier for any woman to eat and to have some extra kilo, and not force the weight down with highly questionable diet-food.
Better make some movement and do not sit always in front of a computer or looking movie.
Overweight is not such a problem as underweight.
To catch up again after you are unable to eat beause of excessive diet and extreme underweight is much more difficult than you might imagine. Without medical help you might die, and some models had indeed a short life.
Also my Filipina fostergirl had clear signs of malnutrition and when she was 8 years old, she had only 16 kg - by far too low and she was seriously sick with skin, liver and kidney problems. It took over 4 months for her to recover and to eat normally.
Forced eating disorders to remain slim are very dangerous for your health.
Nobody will really tell you, because 'to be slim' is a big business.

Well, the Men's fat percentage limit is 22%, while the Women's fat percentage limit is 32%. Women are biologically inclined to retain a higher percentage of fat compared to men.
A lot of Asian girl's desire to be thin have led to the ghastly sight I have to endure everyday during the subway ride. The chopsticks and the J ass girls wearing low riders or bell bottom jeans, the girls with no curves wearing flowing blouses..., argggh.

It seems the vast majority of people here in Asia are still unaware of this disease. Quite dangerous, really. My 17 year old sister is also a bit worried about her weight. So, I'm keeping an eye on her.
