Roger, hope you can post some more pics of Yunnan in the CHina section. This view from your condo is great!! Yunnan is sub-tropical, so it would still be pretty green yes? May I ask what you do for employment there? I'd like to live in that part of China but there are not too many viable jobs there.

Yunnan is a incredibly diverse province. Most guidebooks to China will say something like..."If you can only visit one province in China, Yunnan should be your choice." But I am afraid I can do nothing for your interest in employment here. My Chinese wife and I (American) bought condos in Yuxi, Yunnan and Qionghai, Hainan in 2006. Now with retirement being from 2 - 5 years away we are looking for a place to live in Thailand or Malaysia. Because of the visa situation it would not be possible for us to remain in China long-term and I find the idea of regular visa runs odious. I prefer something I can depend on. So I have become a reader of this forum and a few others to learn what I can about these two countries so that when we are able to visit I can make an intelligent selection of possibilities.

The question is, what can you do with your condominiums, can you transfer the profit out of rent to overseas easily?
Or do you consider to sell them?

Otherwise, beside the question, how to transfer your money out of China, I think there will be no problem for you to retire in Thailand, Malaysia or Philippines. What kind of problem should this be?

We would keep both condos for visits. China has no property tax and maintenance fees are very low. As we will both be US citizens at that point we would only be allowed a 60 day continuous stay in China. My wife will never be able to get enough Chinese cuisine so we'll probably be back in each for a 2 month visit each year. In my search for the best alternative Malaysia offers the 10 year MM2H visa program, several cities with large Chinese populations, political stability and better options for purchasing freehold property. But it seems to me that, except perhaps for the Eastern Malay provinces of Sabah and Sarawak, Thailand offers more beauty.
