Linksys WAG200G Router Problems in Thailand and Firmware Versions
Posted 25 March 2009 - 07:09 PM
I'm using a WAG200G ADSL router at this time and I've been having real trouble staying connected on TTT Maxnet. There's a firmware release for this router (I think third party) by a Greek ISP. I won't post a link, just do a search and you'll find it... firmware version 1.01.08. There is always the risk something will go wrong, especially with third party firmware, of turning your router into a brick... but I took a chance on it and upgraded.
Before the upgrade, the router often took 5 or more minutes to get connected, even after pinging the exchange... a real pain in the neck, sitting there waiting to get back online every time it dropped.
I've been running version 1.01.08 for about a week now, and while the connection isn't any more reliable, the router now re-establishes the connection MUCH quicker (usually in seconds) since upgrading.
Just thought I'd post the info for anyone using that router.

To answer your question, I just pinged my server in Singapore...

I thought I'd give it a go, as I wouldn't be too upset if the router got bricked... but the firmware upgrade was successful and some really useful new features are now available. For sure this will now remain a useful router for years.
