Malaysia PM urges woman to appeal against caning
KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia – Malaysia's prime minister urged a Muslim woman waiting to be caned for drinking beer to appeal the sentence, saying Tuesday that her plea would likely get a sympathetic hearing from Islamic authorities.
Kartika Sari Dewi Shukarno, however, said she has no intention of doing so because she wants to get it over with quickly. "I don't want to appeal," Kartika told The Associated Press. "They shouldn't ask me to appeal."
