The Symphony of Lights is a new addition to Hong Kong's skyline since I was last there and I was looking forward to seeing it... but really, what a tacky letdown. Maybe I just don't get it, but all it looked like to me was a few wimpy disco lights place on top of a few buildings and set to swirl randomly (and weakly). The whole thing looked broken/ill maintained. If they're not going to make the effort, turn the things off and don't bother. It's rubbish frankly. I guess it looks better on the occasions they let off some fireworks to augment it, but the lights are pathetic.

When I first saw the Symphony of Lights I was up on yonder Peak in a Japanese restaurant a few years ago and it really was spectacular. Last time I saw it, a few weeks ago, it was really sad; not so much a symphony as a comb and paper solo of lights.

I recently saw it from the Peak too. It was barely even perceptible from the Island side. It really looks like they've allowed it to deteriorate and just aren't bothering to invest in it's maintenance... If that is they case, they should shut it down altogether. It's embarrassing.
