New Book on Education in Hong Kong

A new educational sociology of HK - Does It Have To be Like This? Education and Socialisation in Hong Kong - has recently been published:

https://www.createsp...e.do?id=3412683

and on Amazon at:

http://www.amazon.co...64861292&sr=1-1

This title will also soon be available on some other, select online channels, as well as on a dedicated website currently being prepared. There will also be a limited 'on shelf/in store' presence in selected Hong Kong book stores. The possibility of having the book translated into Chinese is also being investigated.

Many readers of this forum will be interested in this work. The title has only been available for a few days, yet sales are already tallying up. The book, it seems, has struck a chord with many people in Hong Kong, both teachers and non-teachers alike.

This new title, which includes the chapters, 'Konfucian Kids', 'Claustrophobic Conditions', 'Diligent Dictators', Principals and Principles', 'NETs and Nett', 'Extra Edukayshun', and 'Exams, Elitism and Educational Elephants' - among others - will, of course, be of especial interest to former, present, and prospective teachers in HK.

Thought I got a whiff of the ordour of self-promotion. Posted Image

Good on him. If it's a good book- i.e. accurate- I hope it sells by the shipping container load. Especially if there's a little kickback for OE in it! Posted Image
