The court of appeal has now ruled that the government's school management reforms are constitutional. Of course, the catholic diocese of Hong Kong is pretty upset by this because all schools are required by 2012 to set up their own incorporated management committees comprising 40% elected representatives of parents, teachers and alumni, with the remaining 60% appointed by sponsoring bodies... and all these schools that the church paid hard cash to run and brainwash students into believing jesus is watching you while you play with yourself, and even though he's thousands of years old he'll suddenly pop back into existence... sometime 'soon'... are now threatened...

The Catholic diocese has lost a second legal challenge against new laws that require it to take representatives from outside onto its school management committees.

In the wake of the Court of Appeal decision yesterday, the Methodist Church of Hong Kong - which is also against the policy - has threatened to hand back its schools...

Of course, the church is really kicking up a stink, claiming their right to practice their religion without governmental interference, is being curtailed. Clowns, it's sure good to see them gradually stripped of their long held position and privileges.

Under laws that came into effect in 2005, government-aided schools are required by July 2011 to have some outsiders, such as parents and alumni, on school boards - although churches may still control 60 percent of seats...

Sounds not unreasonable...

As far as I understand, it is only about GOVERNMENT-AIDED schools, this means, schools which receive tax-payers money for their support.

If the church is able to run these school free of government sponsorship, 100 percent financed by the church, it can keep an administration without outsiders in its management.

I wonder how much is this government-aid? How many percent of these Catholic etc.. school expenses are paid by public money?

What it seeks to achieve is greater transparency of management, more efficient management, and enhanced accountability to the public purse," said the ruling..

Such a ruling for sure is a big problem for many Christian organizations, not only schools, it should be extended to religious charities as well.
These organizations are not known to be open-minded and to show their book-keeping, but they are always busy to demand money from public sources.
