All airlines from the Philippines will be banned from entering the European Union airspace starting April 1.

Quote

.....statement from the office EU Ambassador to the Philippines said the European Commission's decision came after "the announcement by the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) in October 2009 of a Significant Safety Concern relating to the oversight functions carried out by the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP), and on the earlier downgrading of the Philippines' safety rating by the US Federal Aviation Administration."

It said that the decision by the European Commission "reflected the unanimous opinion" of the EU's Air Safety Committee at its meeting in Brussels on March 17-19.

Do any Philippine airlines fly to the EU? This sounds much like the EU ban on Indonesian airlines, warranted though no Indonesian airlines flew to any EU country at the time of the ban. It did, however, have a beneficial effect, in that it pushed Indonesia to improve the oversight and implementation of safety rules and regulations, Garuda Airways is now due to resume flights to Amsterdam on 1st June 2010 after a gap of 6 years.

Badges? We ain't got no stinking badges!

Why am I not surprised when it takes me 30 minutes to get through security, and a congressman 2 seconds?
