Philippines, Thailand, Cambodia - Magnets For Scum? Are these countries attracting the worst people from around the World?

No specific movies that I can think of. However, there are countless references in a miriad of films. For example, two lines from the latest Pierce Brosnan's movie 'The Matador'...

'I look like a Bangkok hooker on a Sunday morning, after the navy's left town.'

'I wouldn't do that for all the teenage tw*t in Thailand.'

I could probably list a thousand references like this.

Does it mean he looks good?
Because they're sure happy when it happens and they sure look good when they're happy... ;)

That's my point Blue... typical one liner cliche based on reputation rather than experience.

Ahhhh saw the Matador - yeah I recall that now that u mention it. However I was thinking something more in your face. Course latest Bridgett Jones film did touch on it, Hugh Grant w/ladyboy?

Yeah shoot, I remember bought one girl out in Wanchai, topless and full of blue marks.
Victim of the US aircarrier and support vessels visiting. Just told her to go home.
While the ships stayed in port, Wanchai operated around the clock.

We're going a bit off topic but the few times I've seen bargirls beaten in Thailand and showing the marks, it was not by foreigners.
I'm sure there are 'exceptions' but I never met them.
As for the navy, I heard only praise for them, lot of cash and pretty fast... ;)

That's what I was talking about. I watched the movie 6ixtynin9 and the boxing owner says that the rest of the world only thinks Thai women are whores and Thai men are drug dealers. This is reflected in movies, TV and sometime in the news or documentaries.

Look at it this way: They're danmed if they do and danmed if they don't. They allow scenes on Petchburi Road, Soi Cowboy, in Patpong and Nana to go on for years, which isn't a bad thing really, and then in the past few years the government tries to clean the place up, foreigners bitch and moan because bars close early and the price of whores goes up. Then they bitch and moan because they meet twits on holiday that want to go to the same places they went to and still sometimes go to. Why not go to Amsterdam or Las Vegas where there's lots of good, clean family entertainment and leave Thailand alone for cheese sakes. Does any of what I have just said make any sense?

Don't recall any movies about Thai prostitution? Only Vietnam if truth be told.... ie Full Metal Jacket. Prob more, but this is the only one that stands out in my mind.

I didn't mean whole movies made about it. Just ignorant references, similar to the one Drake mentioned, that appears in many films now.

Take a stroll around the Pigalle in Paris, and around the Pompidou Centre where peep shows, clip joints and ### video booths abound where you can masturbate to your hearts content onto the floor and what do we associate Paris with?... A rusty tower that's a century past it's design life.
London?!?!... just look at the miriad of protitute calling cards plastered all over the telephone booths depicting sexy hookers just a phone call away. We associate London with Beefeaters and big red buses.
New Zealand and Australia... prostitution is legal. Anyone heard of Flamingos in Aukland, or that Gogo bar with all the fish tanks?
... and don't even get me started on Vegas. I think a more authoratative survey showed that the country with the highest number of sex workers per capita was America.

... Do you see where I'm going with this?

IMO, the venues you mention above pale into insignificance when compared to similar venues elsewhere in the world. The Bangkok sex industry has somehow achieved a mythical status... by means of lads only television, NGO propoganda, tour companies arranging 'come see the legedary Patpong' guided tours... that everyone around the world thinks they know about when in fact they know f*ck all.
Nana, PP and Cowboy are just a few grotty streets in the middle of a huge concrete mess of 10,000,000 souls. I just don't see what all the fuss is about. Same with Manila.

... and Thai women the World over don't deserve their reputation as being a nation of easy lays and bar girls created by God to service social f*ck ups from the West and U.S. squaddies.

Of course they know f*ck all. Did you listen to Will Smith's idiotic little speach at the Oscars? There's a perfect example of knowing f*ck all. There is a glaring reason why Bangkok's sex industry is so much more popular and well known to the world. Try having a chat or a coffee with a stripper in Vegas. She'll tell you to go f*ck yourself right quick. Maybe Thailand is just too successful for it's own good.

Think about who controls the world's media?: the west. Who has the most diposable income to travel?: westerners. Who has the easiest access to travel visas worldwide?: westerners. What is a major perk of world traveling businessmen?: to get away from hags they're chained to at home.

Now look at it from the other side of the fence. Poeple living in Asia have little money to travel, are regularly
denied visas to western countries, their primary motives for travel to the west are to sight see, gamble, see the snow, go to university or visit family already established there. They don't go to the west to fock go-go girls.
A western newspaper editor is much more interested in the thousands of tourists who flock to Koh Samui and Patpong, than he is in the millions of johns who frequent strip clubs and brothels in Miami, Honolulu, LA, London and Paris, simply because the scene is different and seems more exotic.

Men (and women) make use of prostitues wherever they travel or live. Some African nations are popular holiday destinations for single women travellers for the same reason men go to Bangkok, Amsterdam etc etc etc but as it's usually women that do the complaining and moralising, you don't get to hear about that side of the sworded truth. In fact the sex industry for female sex tourists flourishes.
Anyways. The title of this poll asks if these countries are magnets for f*ck ups...

... Quod Erat Demonstrandum.

Any country that has loose or no extradition treaties with western countries, and is warm and cheap is a magnet for f@#$ups. :)

Was in Hamburg last year and met up w/mate there. We went down to notorious Redlight Zone, and be honest, it was one big scam. Mate tried one on while I had a pint - he came back w/look of disgust on his face. Pulled in with a 30euro offer and naught for it - lady kept demanding 70euros - told her fk off and off he went 30euros lighter w/hard on. :o

Good old Reeperbahn, just forget it.

On the other end of Germany, opposite of Basel, where all the Swiss go met one Asian girl working there. Philipina. Within 1 minute she asked for her 'piccolo' and I gave my standard reply "So fast you cannot be that thirsty'.
Reply: "If you don't want, than forget it". Gone she was, and btw her answer was in perfect Swiss-German.
:(
