Philippines, Thailand, Cambodia - Magnets For Scum? Are these countries attracting the worst people from around the World?

hah, i never thought about it that way, but it's a pretty apt word i guess. the best part is, according to the definition of "scum" they're not actually indivual "scums" or "a scum", they're just this sorta unbiquitous, homogenous, squishy layer of icky "scum" stuff that lays there, floating, one bit completely indistinguishable from the next.

I hate the fact that they make the rest of us look bad. The majority of people I have had much to do with over there are great on the surface anyway, but there are always a few that leave a really bad taste in your mouth.
It only takes one to mistreat the sister of some young Thai guy to incite hatred for farang. Some people you can almost see the sleaze oozing from the pores of their sweaty little faces.
The average dreadlocked hippy is pretty harmless, I know a few expats personally that fit this mold and they're some of the nicest and most assimilated people you could meet. Of course those just out for a lark and some ganja make us all look bad :S

There's a high nutter quota, no question about it, and unfortunately even "proper" expats with "proper" jobs, or "proper" entrepreneurs with their own "proper" businesses can get tarred with the same brush ... you only have to observe the "nudge nudge, wink wink" reactions you get in the UK when you say you work in BKK to see that.

That is one reason why I decided to move on to Singapore after 5 years working in BKK ... felt there was too much risk of not being able to move somewhere else if I stayed too long ... regrettable, but there you go

That's because for every proper businessman you read about online, there're four idiots doing the, "Thailand at all costs!" thing, that eventually goes bust. Either they slink home or wallow in Lao Khao and 500bt hookers until they're entirely out of cash. What I really need to do is open a bar, then lease the bar out on a yearly basis to people who want to own a bar in Thailand" :D

Frankly, that's one aspect of being young and pensionless that scares the s#*t out of me for eventually wanting to move to Thailand and run some sort of business with the wife. It'll be like walking a tightrope. If I fail, I'm screwed and my life disintigrates.

It's a hard decision, even if you are 100% percent confident in your business plan, it's Thailand..
Have a backup plan of some kind, or you'd be stupid to do it if you can't afford to fail. There's a lot on the cards.

Get lives, and quit attacking others who try to make some sort of constructive, contributive comment.

According to this article, a woman, who made the business together with him, was arrested in Scotland.

Why to blame everything on the foreign guy living in Thailand? The woman in UK, who was co-operating with him, is also to blame.

In Thailand salary might be low for rural workers, but which banking institute will give you a loan of baht 530.000,- if you are poor?
