Well, so does it define people floating around in a kind of stagnant way, getting brown-green in the process? :D

hah, i never thought about it that way, but it's a pretty apt word i guess. the best part is, according to the definition of "scum" they're not actually indivual "scums" or "a scum", they're just this sorta unbiquitous, homogenous, squishy layer of icky "scum" stuff that lays there, floating, one bit completely indistinguishable from the next.

perfect!

Thailand attracts fugitives from U.S.

Lax law enforcement, easy hospitality lure many, who blend in easily with expatriates...

I hate the fact that they make the rest of us look bad. The majority of people I have had much to do with over there are great on the surface anyway, but there are always a few that leave a really bad taste in your mouth.
It only takes one to mistreat the sister of some young Thai guy to incite hatred for farang. Some people you can almost see the sleaze oozing from the pores of their sweaty little faces.
The average dreadlocked hippy is pretty harmless, I know a few expats personally that fit this mold and they're some of the nicest and most assimilated people you could meet. Of course those just out for a lark and some ganja make us all look bad :S

Yeah, they're so harmless they refuse to harm even the wrappers of personal hygiene products.

There's a high nutter quota, no question about it, and unfortunately even "proper" expats with "proper" jobs, or "proper" entrepreneurs with their own "proper" businesses can get tarred with the same brush ... you only have to observe the "nudge nudge, wink wink" reactions you get in the UK when you say you work in BKK to see that.

That is one reason why I decided to move on to Singapore after 5 years working in BKK ... felt there was too much risk of not being able to move somewhere else if I stayed too long ... regrettable, but there you go

That's because for every proper businessman you read about online, there're four idiots doing the, "Thailand at all costs!" thing, that eventually goes bust. Either they slink home or wallow in Lao Khao and 500bt hookers until they're entirely out of cash. What I really need to do is open a bar, then lease the bar out on a yearly basis to people who want to own a bar in Thailand" :D

Frankly, that's one aspect of being young and pensionless that scares the s#*t out of me for eventually wanting to move to Thailand and run some sort of business with the wife. It'll be like walking a tightrope. If I fail, I'm screwed and my life disintigrates.

It's a hard decision, even if you are 100% percent confident in your business plan, it's Thailand..
Have a backup plan of some kind, or you'd be stupid to do it if you can't afford to fail. There's a lot on the cards.

Yes, there are those folks who aren't exactly the sort we want to introduce to our Mothers.

Including, I might rather caustically say, some of the holier-than-thou posters here.

Get lives, and quit attacking others who try to make some sort of constructive, contributive comment.

Too bad some folks have nothing better to do than to clutter discussion forums with trash.

How do dirty hippies and pennypinching whoremongers who brag about talking a hooker down to 500 baht, then not paying her contribute to Thailand?

'An Israeli man took a Thai girl from a bar at 7.30 pm, on April 3, 2008, intoxicated her with alcohol and sex stimulants and tried to force her to indulge in a group sex session. When she declined, the foreign couple held her down and half scalped her hair...'

I guess it's always a good idea to ask beforehand...and not start brandishing razors in front of a Thai woman: he's lucky the other woman stuck around.

Ex-UK Policeman was a sex trafficker for a gang in London

'A former British police officer was arrested in Bangkok on Wednesday as part of an international crackdown on a sex trafficking ring in London last month which resulted in nine Thais being arrested...'

He was also acting as a PI in Bangkok, his website now shut down (but you can still see it in the Google cache and on archive.org). In fact, I'm pretty sure he once wrote to me asking for a link...

According to this article, a woman, who made the business together with him, was arrested in Scotland.

Why to blame everything on the foreign guy living in Thailand? The woman in UK, who was co-operating with him, is also to blame.

Her father then took out a 530,000-baht loan to finance her trip and the job brokerage fee.

This is somewhat strange to me...something wrong, I do not really believe that, this is a lot of money...

In Thailand salary might be low for rural workers, but which banking institute will give you a loan of baht 530.000,- if you are poor?

For baht 530.000,- in Thailand you can send your daughter to some schools, or buy even a small apartment etc...

How long do you need in UK to save baht 530.000,- (GBP 8500,- ?) if you are just a waitress in a restaurant?

You and I know it will be a long time, however Sexy Soo from Nakhom Nowhere probably believes a month or so.
