Jobs in Thailand
Let's get one thing clear right from the start. Finding work in Thailand is very hard. Unless you are in the oil and gas industry, are being sent into Thailand to spearhead an operation for your employer, or have a great skill that is very hard to find locally, you will find very few good opportunities. The mere fact that so many people are applying for very few positions in Thailand means that only a few are lucky to get a real expat package and you should be realistic about your chances to save yourself time and disappointment.
Have you recently returned from a holiday in Thailand and are thinking to yourself 'Hmm, wouldn't it be great to live and work in Thailand?'... Well, join countless thousands of others thinking exactly the same thing as you, right now. Now reconcile that with the knowledge that there are many highly skilled expats already in Thailand, probably with better qualifications and more experience than you and years of local knowledge, Thai language skills, perhaps a wife and children... they are already on the ground and going after the best jobs and are much more likely to succeed than an expat wannabe.
If you decide to send of a few CV's, It'd better be something special to stand out from the crowd because employers in Thailand receive a whole load of them and are very good at spotting the ones that come from people only seeking to finance a stay in Thailand and will end up in the bin before they are even read. Recruiters do not want to invest time and a lot of money in new expat staff who will take weeks or months to come up to speed and localise themselves when there are plenty of candidates already in Thailand.
I'm not writing this to throw water on your plans or dreams but it's only fair to make you face up to the reality of the situation.
The majority of opportunities for foreigners looking for work here are in the low paid English teaching industry, which has a very poor reputation in Thailand and is almost certainly not going to offer you any long term opportunities for advancement.
This is just an opening page to give you an impression on things. There are however some great opportunities if you have the right skills that are in demand and if you are relocating with a job that you have already, this website is a great place for you to make friends and ask advice on a country that is truly a wonderful place to live and work.
