Morning Dew Lodge
The Morning Dew Lodge is a brand new Chiang Rai hotel having opened it's doors in December 2007. As a result, it feels squeaky clean as you walk into reception and are shown to your room. It's core market is the serviced apartment customer although it also makes a suitable place to stay for just a few nights. At the time of writing, the rates are 600 Baht per night and monthly rates of 6000 Baht, electricity and water charges not included. Guests staying on a per night basis get free breakfast and there is free tea and coffee for all guests available in the spacious and comfortable reception area.
Although it is quite close to the town centre, it's feels like a quiet neighbourhood, especially if you're used to the hustle and bustle of a larger city. The property is family owned and some of the staff speak excellent English. They give you a free photocopied multilingual map of the Chiang Rai town centre with directions back to the hotel if you get lost.
The rooms are bright and airy and all include balcony, TV, fridge (with two free bottles of water) and hot shower/toilet. Lovely big beds with soft white quilts. There are closed circuit cameras on each floor and 24 hour guard outside, making it feel safe and secure. There is free WiFi internet access throughout the building.

This is a very new property and there are some start up issues, including ongoing construction and minor housekeeping glitches. However, we had an excellent first impression and we actually believe that this is not a problem that will continue with this hotel, they are just suffering a few teething problems. They are still grasping the concept of being hoteliers and all it involves. By the time you read this, I expect this will be the perfect choice in Chiang Rai. What they lack in experience, they more than make up for in friendliness. Overall, a really good option, long or short term and is one of the best deals in town.
Update: We've received a number of complaints about noise issues at this hotel. The problem seems to be the windows in the toilets which open into the corridors. This means the whole corridor can hear other guests as they shower, sometimes singing as they do so and noisily clearing their throats. Furthermore, some have complained about drunk Korean guests returning late at night and generally being very noisy... The noise is clearly heard in the rooms due to these windows that cannot be closed. There is also the issue of a nearby petrol station that plays music all day.
