What's the minimum I can live on in Thailand?

Last updated 2007-11-29

The bare minimum a foreigner can survive on is around 300 Baht per day. This includes 150 Baht for a very basic room, a couple of bowls of noodle soup per day, basic transport on a bus and a little left over for basic daily costs. If you're trying to manage on less than this, perhaps it's time to go home.

How can I reduce my living expenses?

Beer is invariably where most foreigners spend the bulk of their money. Stop drinking. Stay away from the nightlife. Travel on third class carriages on the trains and fan buses is inexpensive. You could also consider moving away from Bangkok if that's where you are... costs are considerably lower away from the capitol, although you can get a 30 Baht meal almost anywhere, including Bangkok.
